Hester looked up and spoke sharply, “That’s not possible. Winnie and Minnie are too young to be out overnight and they can’t stay alone. The three of you will have to go without us. We could be waiting for you when you come back to help you store the food.”

Herman and Harry were perplexed but George, the oldest and wisest mouse said, “I know how we can do it. Instead of umbrellas, we’ll weave coats out of the grass. Each coat will have deep pockets for us to fill with food. Even if we move slowly, we can make it back and forth overnight.” All agreed that this was a good idea and they began to collect grass for weaving the coats. The coats were soon finished and fit well. Herman, George, and Harry got ready to leave and begin the trek to the donkey farm. They were not sure where their first stop would be but agreed that they would not be foolish and would stop if they sensed danger. With their grass coats on, they would blend easily into the ground cover and they would try to stay together. Off they went, traveling together as a team.
