Entomb Me, Please
It took a full day for Ariel to brew the concoction Finn’s lung needed to heal.
She asked Roanoke for a long list of supplies that she needed, however several things just didn’t grow in Oomikodai and she had to substitute a few different ingredients, which made Finn nervous.
Darkness fell and he couldn’t help but feel extremely bored. Going from a fast-paced life to lying in bed all day was making him go crazy. Never did he think he’d see the day when he wished for his action-packed life to ensue. Who had he become?
Ariel also asked for a large black cauldron, as the concoction called for a lot of water—small batches of the stuff was just impossible to make. The unquestioning guards (who Finn guessed to be a part of Roanoke’s secret group of cyclopean friends) brought in the cauldron and placed it in the middle of the room. They then took down part of the roofing so the smoke could escape.
Finn watched as Ariel dropped in all the ingredients, sometimes using her fingernails to break apart a few pieces here and there to get the exact measurements. She spoke to herself the entire time, taking a few occasional breaks to shoot Finn a very creepy smile. He didn’t like that, he didn’t like that at all. He knew what a trickster she was, and it wasn’t out of her personality to do all this just to make him swallow something disgusting, so he asked her about each ingredient before she put it in.
“These are fish scales! These are nose hairs but don’t worry, they will melt into the concoction and Ariel made sure to pluck all the boogers. Oh, and here we have a little shredded liver…oh! And Ariel mustn’t forget to add fecal matter.”
“FECAL MATTER?! HELL NO!”
Ariel giggled. “Ariel played a silly on you, Finn. Please, calm down. Oh, here’s those toenail clippings I asked for!” Before Finn could object, she turned her palm upside down and he watched as a healthy serving of nail clippings floated into the air before touching the water in the cauldron. As soon as they landed, a large puff of fire exploded from the top, swimming up into Ariel’s face. She turned to Finn with a great big smile, half her eyebrows missing and her face black with soot.
“Does… she know what she’s doing?” Roanoke whispered to Finn.
“Unfortunately, yes,” answered Finn.
A few hours later, Ariel extracted a lime green liquid with the texture of thick, gelatinous slime. She walked over to Finn, holding it against her body as if it were a baby. She had yet to clean her face of the soot and gave the impression that she didn’t even know it was there. She handed the vial over to Finn, who knew better than to object or else feel the wrath of an angry fairy.
“Thank you,” Finn said, not looking up at Ariel but studying the bubbling concoction. Maybe he could live with a punctured lung just a little longer? No, he needed to get this done —time was of the essence.
