COLOUR HARMONY

One of the best ways to ensure colour harmony in a painting is to use a limited range of colours. For example, the sky could be painted blue, the mountains a blue green, the water blue and the foreground bank and trees green. Using only three colours – Cerulean Blue, Cadmium Yellow and Payne’s Grey, plus various amounts of water – enables you to paint a wide range of spring and summer scenes. Similarly, by using mixes of Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna and French Ultramarine, autumn scenes can be created.
