7 Now, add colour to the flowers using Tombow pens. The black ink is waterproof, so the addition of the water-based pens will not affect it or make it bleed. Marigolds are known for having gorgeous yellowish-orange petals. I used a muted sap green for the leaves and stems. These would look great as bookmarks or as botanical prints.

Mindful Mandalas

I’ve always been fascinated by lace and its construction, so mandalas are a go-to for me whenever I’m stuck, or to start me off if I’m in for a big drawing session. It gets my mind-to-hand coordination going and loosens me up. It’s also probably the one thing I consistently doodle if I’m in a meeting or talking to someone on the phone. I find it incredibly relaxing, and I can fill pages of my sketchbook with lacy mandalas. The repetition of the drawing plays a big part in getting me into a relaxed state. While I’m drawing, I often zone out, and I can think more clearly afterwards. This project is great as a warm-up or daily practice in a sketchbook. It’s pretty amazing how each mandala always turns out differently.
