Chapter Fifteen

Alison leapt toward the bulkhead and her magic anchored her to its surface as she ran along it and summoned a shadow blade. Izzie threw two light blasts down the passageway. They knocked a wizard back, and he slammed into the two men behind him with a yelp.

Team Dark Princess-Woman with No Name: One, Team Assholes: zero.

The passageway filled with fireballs, ice lances, and dark orbs. Most missed Alison because of her odd angle of approach and her shield absorbed the remainder. A few blows stung, but her defenses remained strong.

Izzie’s continued bombardment incapacitated the smaller group of men down the passageway and several groaned in pain.

Goody, prisoners.

Alison launched from the wall and impaled the lead wizard through the heart before she fired a stun bolt directly into the head of his closest companion. Her target jerked back. His shield held but her follow-up magic sent him to the floor drooling.

She released the blade and let the dead wizard drop. The mundane magic of a good boot to the head knocked out the next man. His body slammed into the hard metal bulkhead with a resounding thud.

Now that Alison was in the hold, she could see two dozen dark wizards spread out in the empty chamber. All surrounded a large and intricate sigil inscribed in the center of the deck that glowed and burned. She had no idea what its purpose was, but she doubted it was to roast marshmallows.

A barrage of ice, fire, darkness, and electricity struck her and strained her shield to its limit. She rocketed upward with the help of a quick pulse of magic and threw out a few shadow crescent blades. One dark wizard collapsed and blood leaked from a gash in his chest. Another couple of the men stumbled back, their shields weakened but not defeated.

Good for you. You should be proud you didn’t die right away. Oh, wait, yeah…

Alison landed behind another and jerked his head back as she lifted her knee to meet it. His eyes rolled up in the back of his head and he fell without a sound. Another few attacks struck her and the force of the magic pushed her back and stung a little.

The dark wizards maintained their assault. The constant explosions against her shields blinded her and she stumbled back as she fed more and more magic into her defenses.

White bolts blasted into the hold and struck several men in the legs to disrupt their attacks on Alison. Izzie rushed in a second later and fired more bolts from her palms.

The remaining adversaries formed a line and backed away slowly.

“I see my guy!” Izzie shouted with excitement. “Hey, Neville! Ready to get your ass kicked?”

The wizard flinched at the mention of his name.

Alison took a few deep breaths. She was a little scorched in a few places, but the concentrated attacks hadn’t accomplished much more than minor injuries.

Mason and Hana should have gotten here first since I stopped and talked to Izzie. Did the wizards ambush
