CHAPTER 8

STEPPING INTO KINGDOM POWER

Adam F. Thompson

I was not surprised to read a recent report about a newly formed church called Way of the Future. Apparently its sole purpose is to control the human race through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is committed to creating a “peaceful and respectful transition of who is in charge of the planet from people to people and machines.”1 There is nothing new about the spirit of anti-Christ’s intention to replace God and desensitize people to His miraculous power, for it has always tried to counterfeit heavenly authority and glorify humans.

God is not fazed by such attempts to counterfeit His power. On the contrary, God is raising up a company of believers who will move in an unprecedented realm of the supernatural. He is calling out a company of saints who will pursue the promise, as Abraham did, and move in the spirit and the power of Elijah. I can tell you now that this is not about emotional begging or an exhausting false bravado in prayer. It’s about tapping into our God-given inheritance. It’s about coming into revelation of our identity and stepping into the Kingdom.

Nathaniel

John the Baptist announced the Kingdom of Heaven with the words, “Repent, for the kingdom is at hand!” (Matthew 3:2). In other words, the Kingdom is as close as our fingertips. It was as close as that to Nathanael when Phillip brought him to meet the Lord. Philip told Nathanael, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph” (John 1:45).

And Nathanael said:

“Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man” (John 1:46-51 NASB).

I imagine Jesus smiling when He said of Nathanael, “Here is a real Israelite; there is nothing false in him!” (Good News Translation). And when Nathanael asked Jesus, “How do You know me?” and Jesus replied, “when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” we understand that Jesus had seen Nathanael in the spirit.

I suggest that the fig tree was where Nathanael had his devotional times with God; the space where he found a place of communion in his spirit with the Spirit.
