I made Lawrence drive me around for hours after Mason left me with the remnants of our date. Now, that was fun to clean up—my own cum off the library floor. I was tempted to go to a dozen different places to blow off some steam, clubs, casinos, or any random wild shit that would make me forget the reasons I was alone and embarrassed.

In the end, I traveled around the city on a personal pity party tour. There were a lot of historic sites; some of them were personal to my story while others weren't. I turned over angry thoughts and feelings of resentment for Mason, myself, and anyone stupid enough to stand in my path.

Eventually, I relented and went home, but I would not sleep next to him. It was a good thing the couch was absurdly comfortable.

A little disorientated, I woke to an empty bed that smelled of him, and with no memory of climbing in at all. He must have carried me. While my brain was angry as fuck at his pushy ways, my heart clenched at the knowledge that he insisted on sleeping beside me.

The shower was already running, so I went to one of the guest rooms to get ready, but before, I glimpsed him through the crack in the bathroom door as he stepped out of the shower. I was annoyed with myself for that as well. He was just too sexy not to look at when naked and wet.

I wanted to leave early that morning, so I rushed through my shower and got dressed as quickly as possible. There had to be some satisfaction to gain from being the one to leave Mason for once. He was already in the driveway, climbing into his black SUV before I made it down the stairs. The idea of besting him at anything was silly.

When he saw me walking toward the white SUV, he drove around to speak to me, and while he opened the window, he made no move to get out. “Good morning, baby. Have a good day at work.” I realized his expectant expression meant he wanted me to kiss him.

I gave him a disbelieving look. He hadn't apologized nor explained what happened the night before, and he wanted to act like this was all normal. Him hauling me into bed beside him and snuggling me was not the same as making up. “You too.”

Walking around to the right side of the car and ignoring any more attempts at communication, I leaned against the vehicle and waited for him to get out and talk to me or leave. After a few minutes, he chose the second option. I grumbled into my hands, unready to face James, who was already sitting in the car waiting for me.

The sound of two unfamiliar laughs filled the air. I looked up to find a pair of teenagers walking along the driveway down near the gatehouse. I couldn't make out their features from here, but it was certainly odd to find a couple of kids strolling the grounds.
