José Martí International Airport Havana, Cuba

Red handed over his Canadian passport to the customs official. The man flipped it open then fed it through the scanner. Red wasn’t worried. Langley was quite adept at forging passports and other identity documents, and he had no doubt this one would pass muster.

“What is the purpose of your visit?” asked the bored official.

“I’m on vacation with some buddies. We want to check out the beaches and bars.”

The man eyed him. “And the women?”

Red smiled. “Sorry, you’re right. I’m just trying to be respectful.”

The man smiled slightly. “I think you’ll find Cuban women are the most beautiful you have ever seen, and they’ll treat you right as long as you treat them with respect.”

Red bowed his head. “Sorry, of course.”

The man stamped the passport and handed it back. “Welcome to Cuba.”

“Thank you.” Red grabbed his single suitcase that had already been searched, and headed toward Spock who had cleared customs a couple of minutes ago. “Any trouble?”

Spock shook his head. “Nope, I’m just a happy, polite Canadian, eh. All you have to do to set them at ease is flash your passport and apologize for everything.”

Red chuckled. “Yeah, I forced a few in there. I forgot to say, ‘eh’ though.”

“I didn’t, eh. It was actually kind of funny, eh.”

Red frowned at him. “Perhaps it was best I didn’t. Something tells me Canadians don’t actually talk like that.”

“Hey, I’ve heard some of the JTF2 guys. It was, ‘This, eh, that, eh, sorry, eh.’”

“I think they were putting you on.”

Spock shrugged. “I guess we’ll never know.”

Red turned to the others as they joined them. “Everything good?”

Sergeant Zach “Wings” Hauser cocked an ear. “Sorry, what was that? I didn’t hear you, eh.”

Red rolled his eyes. “This is going to be a really long trip.” They headed outside and a woman walked up to them, holding a sign that read ‘Donner Party.’

Red chuckled.

“Are you the Donner Party?” she asked.

He nodded. “It’s supposed to be Bonner, Bonner Party.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. One ‘N’ or two?”

Red laughed. “Two.”

She pointed down the pick-up area. “I have a vehicle waiting for you to take you to your hotel.”

“Great, thanks.”

They followed her and they all piled into a Peugeot cube van. The engine roared to life and they rolled away from the curb, everyone sticking to their cover as per their briefing.

Spock whistled as he stared out the window at the mix of classic, Soviet, Chinese, and a few modern vehicles. “This is a classic car junky’s dream.”

Their contact agreed. “My dad would be in heaven. He loves to tinker, and there’s a lot of that here. You’ve got lots of Fords, Chevies, Buicks, whatever. All the American classics from the fifties and earlier. Even some old European cars.”

Spock cocked an eyebrow. “Even the professors’ favorite notorious British sportscar?”

Her eyes narrowed. “Professors?”

“Unimportant,” replied Red.

“Understood. But no. I think Castro used them for target practice.”

Spock’s head bobbed. “I could see that.”

Once they were off the grounds of the airport, their driver peered at them in her rearview mirror.
