Chapter 12

Abby

Sage, Colt, and I just got to the church for the wedding today. I can't wait to see Greg in action. He was great at making me feel at ease about not knowing everyone’s names or recognizing them.

Since I don't expect to see him, before the ceremony, I'm standing outside the church, watching people come in and chat. Today in town, this seems to be the place to be. When I feel someone wrap an arm around my waist, I jump, turning to find Greg, smiling down at me.

"You look breathtaking in that dress." He says to me with a glint in his eye.

"Thank you. You look really good in a suit." I don't hide that I'm checking him out. That seems to only make him smile more. He grips my waist a bit tighter, before dropping his arm.

"Well, it's not every day a pretty girl I want to impress is in the audience watching me perform a wedding. I figure I should put my best foot forward." He winks at me.

This makes me blush. He's openly flirting with me. Though, I know he is, I'm not sure how to handle it, because he knows about William, but I like this side of him. Does he know about my feelings, and how my feelings for him and William are warring against each other right now? I hope not. I don't know how to put that into words, and I don't want to deal with it right now.

I'm saved from having to answer him, as people start coming up to talk, and he introduces me to everyone, just like he promised he would. Whatever conversation he's having, he pulls me into it, too. I’m a little alarmed by how good it feels to be by his side. Almost too good, and way too comfortable.

As I take my seat, waiting for the ceremony to start, I look around the church. It's an old, country church with wood plank walls painted white, lots of windows for natural light, a stained-glass window on stage, wood floors, and wooden pews.

The church may be small, but it's well maintained and well loved. It looks like something out of a magazine, or that should be at one of those open-air museums; not to be used every Sunday.

I know Greg loves being the pastor here and being the one caring for the history of the church, and the people in this town. He loves the community aspect and being able to reach out to people in town versus the big city vibe. That's when my brain goes down a dangerous path. What would it be like to be a pastor’s wife here? Not just any pastor's wife, but Greg's.

It was never something I wanted to do or even considered. After my parents died, I didn't have the best experience with the leaders in my parents’ church. In fact, most of them are in jail now, thanks to Sage and Colt's help.

But sitting here now, looking at Greg,
