Your Turn to Play!
Once youâve decided on a goal, set a timer for two minutes, and do the exercise I outlined above. Close your eyes, and go through the process of feeling the elevated emotions while you think about your goal.
When the timer is up, write down your goal, and describe the picture you imagined in your head. Include as much detail as possible. As you recall the memory and write about it, your brain will continue filling in gaps, making the image more vivid.
Next, write down two actions you can take within the next 24 hours to make progress toward that goal. Your actions can be any number of things. Here are some examples:
Suppose you had a goal to earn $1 million. The two actions you write down can be what I call either practical or magical. âPracticalâ actions are those that any no-nonsense realist would agree could help you reach your goal. For example, to research alternative ways to make money.
âMagicalâ actions are those that help get your heart, spirit, and soul in the right state for realizing the goal. For example, to meditate for five minutes every day on this goal. And, of course, Coffee Self-Talk!
Practical actions might include reading a book about doing the thing you want to do. All youâd need to write on your list is: read book. Or maybe itâs joining an online group of other people doing the same thing, in which case, youâd write, join group.
In other words, simple steps. Just to get things moving.
Magical actions might include loving yourself more, or working on feeling worthy, because feeling worthy is foundational to manifesting your dreams.
Better yet, choose one practical and one magical action. For example, getting more sleep (magical, because it puts you in a better mental space) and reading the book (practical). Note how they work together here⦠when youâre more rested, youâll have the clarity of mind and physical energy to read a book on the topic thatâll help you move toward your goal.
And donât overlook the small goals; they are just as important as big ones. Accomplishing a small goal, like organizing your spices, builds momentum. Imagine the ease of making recipes with your spices (or kitchen) organized. Imagine buying spices youâve never tried before. Imagine all the new recipes! Heck, maybe this one, small goal would set you in motion on a whole new trajectory, leading to a goal of writing a cookbook, or attending culinary school. You never know where things will lead!
