Chapter Seven
Shep
By the time they reached the mansion just outside the city limits, Shepâs attention was only slightly on the world around them as he exited the limousine and helped his gorgeous wife from the car.
Heâd teased her and touched her during the long ride to the outskirts of the city, leaving her flushed and flusteredâand him with a permanent semi. But this new side of her was intoxicating, and he never wanted to lose sight of her again, never wanted to forget the way her soft skin felt beneath his fingertips, the way her pale cheeks flushed with color when he whispered dirty words into her ear. Never wanted to forget the way she sounded when she giggled breathlessly when his fingertips traveled too high up the slit of her gown.
With his own mask in place already, he settled Annikaâs delicate mask onto her face, smirking at the pale flush in her cheeks, the way she couldnât hold his gaze for long without glancing away, the gentle dig of her teeth into her bottom lip.

They strode up the steps toward the massive front entryway of the home, which was framed by large white pillars with ivy crawling up the length of each and creeping upward to the roof and out across the smooth white exterior of the home.
Two men in all black suits stood on either side of the doorway. Once the security guard on the left checked their names off the list on his tablet and verified their IDs, Annika and Shep were asked to sign a waiver. When that task was completed, they were each given a wristband, soft velvet ribbon in a bright emerald green that clasped around their wrists with an antique looking fastener.
Theyâd already completed most of the vetting processâthey meaning he, as Shep had been the one to fill out all the paperwork for the two of them, paid the fees for tonightâs event, and sent along any compulsory background information so that he could surprise Annika with this nightâand the only step remaining was deciding whether or not they wanted to become full-fledged members.
Shep appreciated not only the safety precautions in place but the diligence with which each member was scrutinized before joining. It appealed to his need for
