“Of course we will! We’re ninja!” Garmadon cried. He looked Will up and down. “And what are you, exactly?”

“Well, that’s the thing,” Will replied. “I am but a simple traveling barber. I got lost on Peri’s mountain and Balee led me to her. I was very frightened, and as we talked I told Balee I was a worrier, but he heard ‘warrior,’ and he relayed that to Peri and—well, here I am. I have no intention of fighting that foul beast. Jelena’s painting is quite comfortable, and we’ve become the best of friends, haven’t we?”

“Yeah, sure,” Jelena replied, but she turned to the brothers and mouthed the word “no.” “Anyway, we’ve got to get going. See you later, Will.”

“Good luck, ninja! You’re going to need it!” Will called out. Then he pulled a pair of scissors from his smock pocket. “If you change your minds, I’m happy to take care of those shaggy hairstyles for you. For a discount, of course.”

Jelena galloped off to the edge of the magical forest, and the brothers followed. As the trees thinned, she came to another portal.

“Does this lead to the Chroma’s painting?” Wu asked.

“No,” Jelena replied. “We must pass through several different paintings to get there. I know the way. But stay alert. Not all of the paintings are as safe as this one.”

“What do you mean?” Wu asked, but Jelena had already jumped through the portal. With a shrug, the brothers followed.

The boys landed in the painting and gazed around. Jelena faced them. They were standing in a field of bright green grass with large, uneven stalks. A single flower grew in the field. It was very tall, with red petals, and a smiling face inside its pink center.

“It’s hot in here,” Garmadon remarked. He looked up to see a giant, yellow sun hanging low in the sky. Rough lines extended from the main circle of the sun. It looked strangely familiar, somehow….
