Emilie

Dead, blood, and betrayal. That is my new world. Dominic did not have his parents. They died, first his mother abandoned him in the orphanage and afterwards he killed father. Cavalli only has the Mafia, his men and Roth Nikov.

Dominic Cavalli is a lone wolf, so I spy on him as soon as he enters the house. This time he drops his keys at the table and walks with those feline movements towards the bar pouring himself amber liquor, I'm not ready for his explosion of power. A loud crash followed by a cry of frustration; the front door is opened by Roth stained in blood. He stops short, just glances at Don, keeping a safe distance.

Don shortens the steps by taking Nikov by the neck and the latter does not move a single muscle, he is there, standing, letting him take over his body, a clear threat of ending his life.

“He's my brother, Dominic. Raze is my blood.”

“The only reason he lives! Did you think I would kill him? It's family!”

“Do what you have to do.”

“Killing them doesn't fix shit.”

Don finally backs off, leaving Roth's throat. Arming myself with a non-existent courage I walk out of the balcony, stepping out of my protection towards the man capable of killing me without hesitation. Cavalli blinks at me, while Nikov looks away. Don's knuckles are covered in blood, smashed. He clearly just had some kind of trade on hand and from my understanding, it was with Nikov's brother.

“I was on the balcony, I couldn't sleep,” I say through the mists and shadows of the past. My voice has become hoarse from a dark aura, from a time of great pain and the fear of being a victim of that again. It's as if a kaleidoscope of overwhelming memories shakes me, each and every one at the same time. The blood, the pain, the wounds, the terror, the fear, the fragile and the garbage of life with her and how I ended up in the arms of a pedophile. Everything collides in a mound of rage in my chest.

“Emilie…” His voice calling me, pleading, causes a little heat in me, then I dare to look up at his blue lanterns. Storm, pain, rage, danger, and bewilderment shine through them.

“Go up to your room...”

“You're hurt,” I cut short before hearing his order. “Roth, could you leave us alone? Don clearly needs to rest.”

Roth, who hardly speaks, blinks at Dominic, seeking direct order from the chief of chiefs. This one nods sending him out of the attic. Dominic tries to get closer, and I panic back. Its bluish storms record the movement. Cavalli is a detail´s person, he may be looking into your eyes, but also, he is even capable of absorbing every minute detail around him.

That is so identical to Joseph Greystone. I am tempted to move forward, hug him, and tell him that I could never fear him, memories are stronger than words, they have always ripped everything out of me. They are vivid nightmares.
