“So they’re renting a house, a little ways from here. Airbnb. It’s about five miles east, near the inlet.”

The lawyer pointed to a map on the digital tablet in front of us. He pinch-zoomed onto a specific street, but with everything so flat, the streets all looked the same to me.

“How do you know?” Darius demanded.

“Because I trust my sources,” said Christian. “And my sources tell me—”

“Yes, but how do your sources know?”

The lawyer threw me an annoyed look. I only shrugged.

“Fine, I’ve got people monitoring and downloading the video feeds from the cameras we set up,” he said. “One reported back to me that the same gray Chevy Silverado was seen slowing down as it passed the winery on three separate occasions.” He reached into a folder and pulled something out. “On one of those occasions, someone leaned out the window in an attempt to examine the cameras.”

We all watched as he spun a blown-up photo across the table. The monotone, night vision print was sharp enough that Edward was clearly visible.

“How many people do you have working for you,” Darius swore.

“Enough.”

He shook his head. “Who the hell are you? Super Lawyer?”

“The truck had Georgia plates,” Christian went on without missing a beat. “They were followed to this address, right here.”

I picked up the photo for a moment, then put it down. It was pretty fucking conclusive.

“Well shit,” I swore. “Why didn’t you just show us this in the first place?”

The lawyer paused before shifting his gaze guiltily to Autumn.

“I didn’t want to frighten her.”

Our host didn’t appear amused. She looked a bit frazzled, though, or rather, bedraggled. She’d been out in the rows all day, working on the vines. For some odd reason she had grass in her hair, and all over her shirt.

Curiously, she’d also changed into sweatpants.

“You didn’t want to frighten me?” Autumn demanded.

“Yes, well—”

“These assholes break into my house, trying to take over my place,” she swore furiously. “They cut down part of my vineyard. They slept in my bed. They even saddled me with a cat…”

She swiped an arm in the direction of the nearby counter. The cat was just sitting there, swatting its tail.

“And somehow you still want to protect my feelings?”

Christian glanced down for an awkward moment, then glanced to us for help. The look in our eyes told him there wouldn’t be any.

“Listen, this lone wolf bullshit is over,” I told him. If you’re not going to share your intel, none of this is going to work. We’re in this together, remember? All four of us.”

“Yeah,” he sighed finally. “Okay.”

“So what else?”

“I’m working on getting them a permanent tail,” he said. “For now, I had an air tag dropped on their truck. It’s a tracking device that works on a blue-tooth connec—”

“We know how it works,” Darius cut in sharply. “We’ve done field reconnaissance with everything from this primitive shit to live satellite feeds accurate to within less than a foot.”

“Not to mention in resolutions that would make you dizzy,” I added.
