Chapter 4
As she stepped inside the Dragonâs Tears, Lyne was tempted to believe she was walking into a trap, but the elven assassins in the burning streets of Erhyrst had already proven with their indifference that Lyne wasnât important enough to bother killing.
Lyne was surprised the tavern hadnât been boarded up by its human owners, but one glance around the room told her why: the walls were stained with blood, and several humans â peasants, farmers, and one male knight â had been piled unceremoniously in a corner on the floor. Two dozen black-clad elves were seated at the little tables, drinking mugs of ale and speaking softly by candlelight.
Hector, the human male owner of the bar â a grumpy old man with strings of gray hair who used to leer at Lyne whenever she came in for a rest â was lying dead atop the corner pile of slain humans, his eyes blank and wide as they stared, unseeing, at the ceiling.
The only human who had been spared was a young barmaid with long blonde hair and huge breasts. She went around serving drinks with shaking hands, blushing and giggling nervously whenever one of the elves commented on her breasts.
The elves didnât even look up when Lyne walked in, almost as if she had been expected. They merely glanced at her and went back to drinking, talking in low voices, and terrorizing the nervous barmaid with their comments.
One elven woman rose gracefully and moved toward Lyne, leaving her two friends â who stared at Lyne and whispered â behind. Lyneâs heart skipped a beat as the woman came toward her, breasts riding and hips swaying. It was her, the assassin with the pale eyes!
The elven assassin took Lyneâs hand, staring intently into her eyes. Her small, pretty hand was warm and strong, and Lyne felt her clitoris throbbing from its touch.
âItâs you,â the woman whispered breathlessly, happily, and before Lyne could respond, she was being whisked away up the stairs.
As they hurried along the upstairs corridor, Lyne noticed blood on the walls, and there were more bodies on the floor, which she tripped over as she struggled to keep up with the elven woman who tugged her along.
The elven woman was checking the rooms as they went (kicking open doors and peering impatiently inside), but it seemed none of them were suitable. Lyne caught glimpses of dead bodies on the beds, on the floors. Finally, they came to a room that was devoid of bodies, and the elven assassin pulled Lyne inside and kicked the door shut behind them.
âBut â I thought you said your people would kill us if we were seen together,â said Lyne, turning to face the elven woman.
The elven womanâs pale eyes were fixed with a startling hunger on Lyne, and Lyneâs heart skipped a beat as she was backed toward the bed.
âI told them that I led you here to kill you,â said the elven woman absently. She was still staring at Lyne as
