A wise quotation says, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference”. We can apply the same to anger. There are things worth our attention and things that are not. Even the things that deeply matter to us cannot benefit from our anger. If you focus on what mistakes you made, your attention goes in the wrong direction. You should work on resolving the issue instead.

Think about possible solutions for the things that make you angry. Turn off the phone if calls often annoy you. Close the door on the children’s messy room. Schedule dates later in the evening if your partner is always late. Or simply let go of an issue if it’s not something really important to you. This will bring you such relief. Anger won’t solve anything and might only make it worse.

Avoid “You” and use “I” statements instead.
