Later that night as I stand in front of the bathroom mirror, my mind keeps thinking back to our kiss. It was everything I could have wished for. Everything I ever wanted a kiss with Mark to be like. My body reacts instantly at the possibilities.
Needing to change my bandage, I reach up and take it off. My head is smooth and flawless. I stare at the place where just this morning there was a gash, but now itâs completely gone. I look closer in the mirror but donât see a thing, no sign that I was ever even cut. Not even a slight scratch. Nothing.
How can this be, I think now, rubbing my fingers along the area hoping to feel something. A rough patch. A dip in the skin. Anything.
I reach down and splash water on my face. When I look in the mirror again all I see are tiny drops of liquid streaming down my forehead. As I stand in the shower letting the hot water run all over my body, I try to figure out how I could have healed so quickly. I think back on other times that Iâve hurt myself, and the only other injury that stands out in my mind is the cut I got at the fair. That was a pretty weird injury, but this. . .
After showering off, I go to my room and get on the computer. As Iâm looking up information on healing, Julian pops in my mind. He never even asked me about my head. I figure he probably did see Mark and I together backstage, but wouldnât he still at least ask what happened to my head?
I push my thoughts of Julian away when articles come on the screen about people with the ability to heal quicker than others. Everything I read talks about how you can take these new scientifically formulated drugs to help promote the healing process. Even with these drugs, though, nobody would ever be expected to heal as quickly as I did. In other words, I have nothing. Again, thereâs no reasonable explanation for the odd things that are happening to me.
