Chapter Ten

Three weeks passed and Epic boarded a shuttle with Rocky to make the trip up to a warship to communicate with Carley on the advanced communicator. On the way into orbit, Epic commented, “JP and Tragedy’s hearing is very close to mine now.”

Rocky’s eyes narrowed, “That’s a rather fast development.”

“Now that you and their partners are communicating with them using telepathy, I believe the process is sped up. Remember you and I only communicated using our sign language; JP and Tragedy are directly connected to their partner’s minds which I’m sure increased the development of their senses.”

“Have you seen any changes in your senses?”

Epic turned to Rocky and thought, “I believe I’m becoming more telepathic.” Rocky’s eyes widened and Epic raised his hands, “I’ve noticed I have been able to hear the thoughts of the people around me in the community more and more often. I can hear the thoughts of the other Truets easily but starting to hear my own people tells me my mind is changing in some way.”

“What about JP and Tragedy; can they hear their partner’s thoughts?”

Epic shook his head and replied, “DUH! Of course they can hear their partners; their partners are telepathic.”

Rocky shook lightly with his laughter, “The only way you knew about it was being able to hear the thoughts of the people in the community who are not telepathic.”

“Exactly.”

Rocky flew the shuttle into the warship’s landing bay, and he turned to Epic, “We’ll discuss this after we talk with Carley.” Epic nodded and followed Rocky out of the landing bay to the bridge where he found Tragedy and Bret sitting in chairs at the front of the bridge. Bret looked up from his console, “Senior Scientist Carley is holding for you.” Bret stood up and Tragedy joined him. Rocky and Epic took their chairs as Bret and Tragedy stood behind them staring at the wall monitor. “Sorry about the delay; I was on the planet’s surface when your call came in.”

Carley waved a hand, “No need to apologize; I have plenty to keep me busy.”

“Have you been able to determine anything about the Vrang ship?”

Carley sat back in her chair and replied, “We’ve learned pretty much everything there is to know about how this ship functions. We can duplicate their invisibility field if we choose, however, there is some disagreement over whether or not we should do it.”

“Why is that?” Rocky inquired.

“We’ve discovered that even the Vrang are unable to detect or see their warships. This ship has no technology in it that would allow us to detect their warships.”

Rocky shook his head, “I find that difficult to believe. I’ve seen Vrang attacks on our fleets and their ships were organized and fought together as a group against us. They had to be able to see each other in order for that to happen.”

Carley shook her head, “They developed another way to work together and it’s quite clever. Before they move in to attack our ships, every Vrang warship transmits their exact coordinates to their command ship.
