For the remainder of my day in the office, I keep my head down and do my work. When Ronan asks, I run through my figures with him in a manner that is strictly professional, and I’m grateful he doesn’t find fault in them.

When his phone rings and he answers with: ‘Sorcha, are they letting you home?’ I don’t give in to my temptation to stay and listen, but instead stand up and leave, giving a small wave to indicate I’m done speaking with him and I’m giving him his privacy.

When I’m back at my desk I send a message to Carla – the one person to contact me since the book club incident. I’m hoping this means she, at least, is still speaking to me and she might be able to give me more information about why I appear to have been booted from the Sisterhood groups.

The best course of action, I decide, is to play it completely dumb.

Hey Carla, hope all is well. Strange thing – the Sisterhood group seems to have disappeared from Facebook and someone seems to have bumped me out of the group chat??? Have you any idea what’s going on? Xxx
