Some people pass like clouds, unnoticed, until they turn dark and begin to storm

“Why are you such a freak?” she said from behind me. I didn’t even know she was there. I was walking home after school and she’d sneaked up on me. You weren’t supposed to let anyone sneak up on you, especially not lunatics like her—you didn’t know if she would spit on you or punch you in the back of the head. She had a bad temper, a bad reputation, and arguably the best body in school. She was scary, sadistic, sexy, menacing—like the way some women find Hannibal Lecter sexy; that’s how she was. She was the sort of girl who would set you on fire as you sat in your car; she would kiss you, then take half your tongue with her. You know the type. She was a freak.

“Born this way, I guess.”

“Most freaks are,” she said, looking at me as if she’d never seen me before. “I was wondering if you could help me.”
