The compass in the cup was now spinning crazily. The needle was going round and round.
She hurried to the bed where Michael had put the thermometer.
âThe temperatureâs dropped five degrees,â Liv reported.
Tina Maria stared at Michaelâs ghost hunting props. She raised her fearful eyes, and announced, âThe ghost is here.â
CHAPTER SIX
It wasnât dark out yet, and still, it was spooky when the room lights flickered and then went completely off.
âWhereâs that flashlight?â Leo asked Michael. He was standing close to the bedroom door, ready to dash away.
âYou donât need it,â Michael said as the lights came back on. âBut if it makes you feel better, here.â He passed Leo the flashlight.
Leo immediately turned on the beam and swung it around the room. âWhere are you, ghost?â he said in a whispered voice. âGeneral Carlos, sir, donât hurt us.â
âOh, Leo,â Liv said, marching into the center of the room. âRelax. We need to make contact.â She raised her arms and said, âGeneral Carlos, why are you here? How can we help you?â
Michael ignored Liv as she began chanting the Generalâs name. âPablo Carlos, Pablo Carlosâ¦â She walked around the edges of the room, saying the name over and over again.
âLet me know if the ghost talks to her,â Tina Maria said. âI want to check if Mom and Dad are back. They need to hear about this.â She left to go find out.
âLeo,â Michael said. âDo you still feel that cool breeze?â
âThe one from the ghost?â Leo asked. âThe one that made the temperature drop?â
âYes,â Michael said. He picked up the thermometer and looked at it. It was still cold in the room.
Leo took a moment to think about it and said, âYes. It seemed to stop for a second, but I feel it again. It feels like a light wind.â
âLetâs find out where itâs coming from,â Michael said.
Liv had left her notebook on Tina Mariaâs bed. Michael told her, âCan I have a page of paper?â
Liv didnât answer. She had her eyes closed and was humming.
âIâll assume that means yes.â Michael chuckled and shook his head.
While Liv channeled the ghost, Michael took the paper from her notebook and tore it into little strips. Then he went around the room, tossing up bits of paper like confetti.
Leo helped. âI donât know what we are doing, but itâs fun!â he said as he joined in and threw some paper strips in the air by Tina Mariaâs desk.
âIf the paper falls straight to the floor,â Michael said, âthen move to another place. Weâre looking for the wind to blow the paper.â
âI found it!â Leo called out as he stood by the closet. When he tossed up the paper, the confetti blew back toward him. âThe ghost is over here.â Leo took two huge steps backward.
