—CHAPTER SEVEN—

Testosterone Delivery Systems

I want to make sure to make the point that ALL testosterone delivery systems are “bioidentical”. That means the molecule is exactly the same as the one your own system makes (or used to make). In my professional opinion, improving the way the product performs in the body, for instance by the half-life of the cypionate (or enanthate) ester attached to the testosterone molecule, does not change that. The ester cleaves off over time, in pieces, and you once again have bioidentical testosterone. Without the delaying actions of the ester (a molecule consisting of chains of carbon atoms meant to increase breakdown time) you would merely have what is called a testosterone suspension, which produces a single huge spike of serum T, then quickly disappears.

Similarly, all testosterone you can take—meaning that which is not produced by your body—is “synthetic”.

Now we have to decide, together with the doctor, what form of testosterone delivery system we will first try. There are two basic subsets of the major testosterone delivery systems: transdermals (TD’s) and injectables (I usually use testosterone cypionate). Here are the current options:
