CHAPTER 8
THE SECRETâS OUT
Henry felt a lump form in his throat as he watched his parents walk in.
âWhat are you going to do?â asked Max.
âIâm going to go tell them,â said Henry.
âNow?â asked Max. âCanât you wait until after the tournament? What if your dad makes you quit the team?â
âIâve already waited long enough,â said Henry.
He jogged over to the bleachers, where his parents were standing. âHey, guys,â he said. âIâm glad you could make it.â
âOf course, bud,â said Henryâs dad. âSorry we couldnât get here earlier.â
âHow did you do in your first match?â asked Henryâs mom.
âI lost pretty bad,â said Henry.
âThatâs too bad,â said his dad. âIâm sure you played great, though.â
âI guess,â Henry said. He looked down at his shoes. He was struggling to find the courage to say what he needed to say.
âHey, Henry, are these your parents?â someone asked.
Henry looked up. It was Coach Martinson.
âWe sure are,â Henryâs dad said proudly. He reached out to shake Coach Martinsonâs hand.
âItâs just great to finally meet you both,â said Coach. âI canât tell you how happy I am that Henry is playing with us in the indoor league. Heâs a super player and a great kid.â
âThanks,â said Henryâs mom. âWeâre really happy that youâre coaching him and letting him play on the team.â
âI wouldnât have it any other way,â said Coach Martinson. âAnd I know the fees are pretty expensive, so Iâm really glad you let me pay for Henry. It was my pleasure, since heâs so talented.â
Dad frowned. âWhat do you mean?â he asked.
