Riding away from the stables Thomas turned to Cecilia. “You realize that this feels like the last days of our school break, right? Soon the work will begin in the fields, and you’ll never see me again.”

“I expected as much. I don’t see you as a man like my father who would sit back and expect others to do the work. You’re not a novice farmer, are you?”

“I’m kidding about disappearing. I do pitch in, there is always more work than hands, but I have never farmed my own plot, if that’s what you’re asking.”

“If I thought that, I would worry about your father’s earldom,” Cecilia smirked. “Since coming here, you seem to… belong. You do not seem to be trying to bring the Town with you, you just seem to embrace the land as it is.”

“Good thing too— if the Town knew what total disregard you had for propriety…”

“You shush!”

Thomas darted her a look. “Well, to be honest, you had precious little to work with on figuring me out before coming here. I can’t say our introduction was traditional in any way.”

Cecilia blushed and felt a surge of need travel through her body, before turning away from him. “Are we going to the game keeper’s cabin?”

“We are. Before we left, I asked Mr. Floyd to have someone come out here and clean it up and do some repairs. I wanted to see what they’ve done.”

Cecilia leaned down and took off, “Race ya!”
