Sven stepped inside. The cabin had a familiar scent. It was a sign of Claire’s presence. He could stand here all day, but he did not have all day. He had to get anything of Claire’s that had been left behind out of this space before Frank or someone else found something of significance.

Suddenly, John pounced Sven. He was of smaller stature and punched him on the jaw, aimed at the eye but missed as Sven pulled him by the arm and gripped him tightly. Sven held him to the floor. There was no way John could free himself.

“Really, man, what the fuck are you doing? Does the boss know that you’re back here?” Sven asked.

He needed a plan. He had to lure John into believing that they are playing on the same team. This bastard was not worth any form of trust, but what other choice did Sven have?

“You’re gonna die if you don’t answer me! What the hell are you doing here?” Sven threatened again.

“I … please, let go!” John slammed his hand to the floor.

Sven decided to let him go. John was not worth this. He was not prepared to have his death on his hands.

Coughing, desperately gasping for air, John came to his feet. “Why did you do that?”

Sven was still engulfed in rage. Breathing heavily, he kept his gaze glued on John. Like a predator measuring his prey. Not done with it yet.

“You let me go, right? You’re not gonna kill me?” John whispered.

Sven remained unmoved. Heavy breathing left his lips, an incensed fire in his glaring stare.

Cold sweat formed on John’s forehead. “Listen, man, if you’re just gonna play cat and mouse with me, it’s not gonna work. I want Claire and you’ve got her. What are you willing to trade?”

“You want me to trade her for something else? Who would trade a woman like that to the likes of you?”

“Come on, man. Do you really want a woman like that?” John laughed nervously.

“Yeah, I want her back. She was never yours, and never will be again.” Sven stepped forward. Ready to beat John to death. To get rid of him. Anger raged in his soul, boiled in his limbs. All his good intentions fled.
