In this chapter, we provided an overview of why educators need to assess performance. We then focused on four questions surrounding assessment:

4.How do we share the results

Central to all of these questions is the decision you are trying to make. We also discussed the differences between formative and summative assessments and how both types of assessment are used in the decision-making cycle. Finally, to help review your school or district’s data-use practices, you may want to collect information on your team’s perception about the successful implementation of specific data use practices. The appendix to this chapter provides a reflection survey you may use for this purpose.
