Preliminary Blocks

Each time a student adds a simulation block to a model, the associated parameters must be set within the block properties. Simulation languages offer many options in specifying timing for blocks including constants, single statistical distributions and multiple statistical distributions. Many more complex options and parameters are available and may be explored in more advanced courses. Following the major logic flow of the process map helps students make a smooth transition into building a simulation model. The Create Block models arrivals to the system.

Process Example: We found that the interarrival time was exponentially distributed with a mean of 7.102 min. Figure 5.9 shows the parameter settings within the Create Block (Enter Bank).
