He looked stunned for a moment—but only a moment.

Then he dropped his mouth to hers.

And Janie had already seen the fireworks tonight, but this was better. Brighter. Hotter. This was Zack. This was madness and sweet fire, his hard mouth and the miraculous things he did with his tongue. This was that terrible, wonderful melting between her thighs and the pulsing need that transformed her into little more than pure sensation.

He was so strong, so deliciously hard. There were all those muscles she’d admired for so long, and he held her up so easily. She could feel the hard ridge of his desire against her body, almost exactly where she wanted it, and she couldn’t understand why she hadn’t done this already.

Why she hadn’t done it that day in the coffeehouse, for that matter.

Imagine the time she could have saved—to say nothing of his poor, coffee-soaked shirt.

Janie kissed him and she kissed him, angling her head the way he’d taught her. She slowly—then not so slowly—moved herself against him as he kissed her back, each slide of his tongue more intense, more possessive.

More perfect.

It was odd enough that she was up off the ground, in his arms. But she’d also never straddled a male body before. There were too many scalding-hot, glorious sensations to count, though she tried. The way his hard hands gripped her bottom, holding her against him as his mouth worked its magic. The way he seemed to fit so neatly between her thighs, and yet, even as she pressed herself against him, it wasn’t quite enough.

“We’re in the street,” he muttered against her mouth, more groan than actual words.

And even that felt like the stroke of his hands over bare skin.

She really, really wanted his hands on her bare skin. And hers on his. But he was pulling his head back, and that reminded her that she needed to focus. For some reason.

“Good thing no one else lives on our street, then.”

He shifted her in his arms. “Where’s Damaris?”

“At Andrew’s again. For the whole night this time, I’m pretty sure.”

Then he was kissing her again. Hotter. Deeper.

Better. But then every kiss was better than the one before, like this was all a cumulative process of heat and need and longing made real.

Janie pressed her breasts against the hard wall of his chest and sighed when once again, it all got deliciously better. She wanted … everything. She wanted him. She wanted whatever this was, except more. She wanted it forever.

And maybe she’d thrown herself at him because she’d had enough revelations for one night, but it wasn’t as if the revelations had stopped.

Janie had spent so much of her professional life working with death. She thought those years had given her a special insight on life. And maybe they had.

But this turned everything inside out. Because it was glorious. He was like glory wrapped in warm steel, and she wanted to dive into him. She wanted to glut herself on all this extraordinary longing and heat, need and revelation.
