CHAPTER THIRTEEN

EMMA

It’s only been a little over a day, but I do miss Reed like crazy. I didn’t miss him thirty seconds after he sent me that first text, but I do miss him now. And luckily, I’d get to see him soon.

I actually didn’t think it’d be happening so fast, but Sky invited me out to Molly’s to celebrate Bryce’s birthday with a few drinks. Since I was deemed an official member of the “Inked Crew Girls,” and Bryce was an artist at Inked, Sky said it was only right that I join them. And Reed immediately agreed.

Of course, he agreed. I knew he couldn’t wait to see me again. He said as much. And honestly, I couldn’t wait to see him either. I was finally ready. I was ready for the wooing. I was ready for the wowing. And I was most definitely ready for the whatever comes after. If I had even a sliver of doubt, it would’ve vanished in an instant when I woke up in the middle of the night yesterday and saw Reed sleeping in his armchair keeping watch over me. I knew he had to be uncomfortable, that in the morning he’d be hurting like hell, but he stayed where he was enduring the chair’s wrath just to make sure I was safe and taken care of.

Even with knowing all of that though, I still didn’t want to roll out of bed and face him in the light of day. But I did. And I am so happy for it. Everything felt right between us now. We cleared up the past, we were living in the present and looking forward to the future. Together. It felt like the perfect time to tell him that I was all-in. Tonight was the night.

I felt a flutter in my stomach at the thought of giving Reed the words. What would he say? What would he do?

I was going down the rabbit-hole of naughty thoughts when my cellphone alerted me to an incoming text. The fluttering and my heartrate kicked up another notch. As did my smile. I knew who it was. We’d been at it all day.

REED: What’re you wearing? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.

I looked down at his Inked hoodie I was wearing again. My smile turned sly. I snapped a pic of myself and hit send. I knew what he thought about me wearing his clothes.

REED: Goddamn, you’re killing me, Em. You should wear that later.

EMMA: I am not wearing this later. I’ll look like a ragamuffin.

REED: Wrong, Em. You’ll look like mine.

Reed stole my breath with four words. I didn’t know how to respond to that. I didn’t want to say, I am yours in a text no matter how true. I stared at his words, the flutters turning into a full out riot. What the hell did I say to something like that?

I was spared when Reed sent me another text. This time it was a picture of himself with a caption.
