SAWYER

My eyes flew open, and I looked around my bedroom, realizing I’d fallen asleep after Victoria and I had had sex, and I didn’t even set my alarm. Frantically, I reached for my phone, knocking it off the nightstand. It hit the floor with a thunk. Sure I’d woken the sleeping beauty nestled against me, I held my breath, but she went on sleeping, breathing evenly.

Letting out a deep sigh, I leaned over to grab my phone off the floor, praying it wasn’t morning yet. The blackout shades over my windows prevented me from knowing for sure. Stretching to pick up the phone, I started to lose my balance and almost fell out of the bed headfirst. I had to lean back sharply to keep from tumbling off. When I did so, Victoria grumbled and rolled further onto her side of the bed, giving me more room to maneuver.

My fingers grappled for the phone. Finally, I managed to get it in my grip and pick it up. The time read four-forty-two, which meant I had a few minutes before I needed to think about getting up. Once again, I let out a loud sigh and set my phone back on the wireless charger. When I rolled over, I saw eyes staring at me, wide.

“Sorry,” I muttered, feeling stupid for panicking about the time. “I guess I fell asleep before, and then I didn’t know if I set my alarm, and I didn’t want to be late for our flight.”

She grinned at me. “It’s fine. What time do we need to leave for the airport?”

“Our flight leaves at eight, so we’ve got some time. You should go back to sleep. Thanks for the blanket, by the way.” As I recalled, I’d fallen asleep face down in my pillow, ass to the breeze.

Her smile widened. “You’re welcome, but I’m not very good at going back to sleep. Do you mind if I get up and take a shower?”

I felt bad for having woken her up, but she didn’t seem bothered. “Of course not,” I told her. “Go right ahead.”

“Thanks.” She hopped out of bed, wearing a pair of cute pajamas, and headed into my bathroom, her overnight bag slung over her arm.

I lay back, looking up at the ceiling, one arm over my forehead as I thought about how amazing this woman was. She was the type of person that took care of others before she even thought of herself, which was so different than any woman I’d ever dated before. God, I was a lucky bastard for having found her.

About forty minutes later, Victoria emerged from the bathroom looking like she was ready to leave for the airport. Her hair and makeup were done, and she was wearing a comfortable, but stylish pair of slacks and a sweater. She smiled at me. “Did I wake you up this time?”

“Nah, I hadn’t fallen back to sleep either,” though I had dozed off a few times. “We should have time to grab breakfast before we leave for the airport, if you want,” I told her, getting out of bed.
