As soon as the conversation ended and Charlotte left, Elizabeth sent an urgent message to London, asking her father and Bingley to wait for them and prepare for the journey to Hunsford, which had to take place the very moment they arrived in London. She took the time to write.

Charlotte will accompany us. She is for now at her parents’ house, newly arrived from Hunsford with disconcerting news!

Pressed for time, she did not write more. Although she was convinced that Mr Bennet would read between the lines and realise there was a good reason to ask the whole party to go to Rosings accompanied by Charlotte. Elizabeth considered the journey to Hunsford of the greatest importance.

Hardly could she temper her impatience to arrive in London and tell Charlotte’s story and how strangely Mr Collins had behaved even for a peculiar man like himself. More and more, Elizabeth believed Lady Catherine knew what had happened to Darcy.

She did not want to reveal her thoughts to Georgiana, as she could be wrong. Lady Catherine and Mr Collins might share another secret—with no connection to Darcy—and in that case, their hopes would be shattered and them crushed by disappointment.

Georgiana asked Mr Bingley’s cousin, Mr Acton, to be their companion, as she felt the need to be safe—an obligation the young man took solemnly. He enjoyed travelling and was more than happy to participate in all kinds of circumstances that were new for him. Grateful to the young ladies for including him in their plans, he considered the mission vital to show his cousin his gratitude for changing his life. Even his mother encouraged him to go, happy that her son would travel in such distinguished company.

Elizabeth and Georgiana paid a visit to Longbourn just before dinner. Elizabeth had to make some preparations for the journey and see her mother and sisters.
