Mica also showed her the cave of old paintings. They were faded and hard to see. In one painting Cherts were lying on the ground. They had white skin.

In another painting there was a man. He had clothes and hair. The man was human. An upsider.

In the last painting the Cherts were standing. The man was close to them. He was doing something. Jan couldn’t see what it was. The painting was too old.

While Jan walked with Mica, she talked. She told Mica about her school. About her friends. About her real bedroom. About her family. And about her sister, Emma.
