“Get out of my way!” Aika yelled as the spiny worm shot toward them.

Over a dozen quills already stuck out from various parts of her body – spots the worm had managed to strike – but now, when she was about to get in a clean shot, Raikei had gotten in the way, forcing her to pull up short.

Luckily, their group had a third fighter to take up the slack, as Raikei’s attack missed and the woman was struck in the ribs. While she flew back, slamming into Aika and taking them both down, Ferry moved in.

In her humanoid Beast form, the ferret seemed to have the speed and ferocity of her full Beast form as well as the dexterity of her human one. She appeared from a cloud of darkness, her claws slashing down and extending, cleaving four deep grooves into the worm’s hide.

Yellow blood sprayed and the worm screamed, its body whipping around instinctively as it tried to get at the thing that had caused it so much pain. Ferry wasn’t there, though, having used her Movement technique to get out of the way as soon as the blow had landed.

Massive jaws slammed shut on the worm’s tail as it was finally exposed, cracking quills and cartilage alike, causing the Beast to let out a howl.

Growling, Aika shoved Raikei off herself and stood, her staff clutched in a tight grip. She took a step toward the worm, only for a flash of green lightning to arc past her, catching the worm in its open mouth.

For an instant, the Beast was outlined in green, its body locked in place, stiff as a board. Then, it dropped to the ground with a dull thud, its body twitching as smoke rose off it in waves.

“What in the world was that?” Aika snapped, whirling on the woman as the Beast expired.

“I killed the Beast,” Raikei said, getting to her feet. “What are you complaining about?”

“You’re not a very good team player,” Ferry said, sounding indignant. “You could have hit Aika.”

“But I didn’t,” Raikei said. “You should be thanking me for this, not getting all bent out of shape.”

Aika resisted the urge to strangle the woman. They had been in the Dungeon for several days now, and in that time, she had made a few discoveries. Firstly, Raikei did not work well with them. She was brash, rude, and got in their way all the time. This resulted in fights being far more difficult than they needed to be.

Additionally, she was extremely bossy. Having grown up as the younger sister of her clan’s Sovereign probably hadn’t helped. During the competition, they were too busy to notice, what with the focus being on defeating the Beast faction and stopping Furea’s rampage. Now, though, when it came to an extended mission with more on the line, these unfavorable discoveries were being made.

“The next time you try to help, I won’t pull my attack,” Aika growled.

“Do whatever you want,” Raikei said, waving her off. “You’re both weak and hardly worth my time.
