Stone arrives at the outpost incognito and goes undercover as a prison inmate. He confers with helicopter navigator Tyler (Dean Devlin), who fingers Major Lee (Malcolm McDowell) and his assistant Master Sergeant Sykes (Leon Rippy) as the culprits who are reprogramming the flight computers on the stolen shuttles. During his investigation, Stone catches Sykes in the act of modifying one of the shuttle’s navigation ­co-ordinates. When Sykes attacks Stone with an axe, Major Lee appears and shoots Skyes dead.

Thinking that the case has been solved, Stone is preparing to return to Earth when the outpost is attacked by a wave of Pyrite robot drones. The real culprit turns out to be Major Lee, who has sabotaged the base’s defense systems and programmed all of the Galactic shuttles except one to return to Earth. Stone mans the base’s defenses and shoots down the drones as Lee attempts to blow up the last remaining shuttle with a bomb. Stone traps Lee in an elevator, and he is killed when the bomb explodes. The rest of the base’s personnel are evacuated from Moon 44 in the shuttle and return to Earth, where Stone reports to his corporate superiors that Lee had been working for Pyrite all along.
