Let them splutter.
Add cumin seeds, sliced onions, and sauté.
When onions turn translucent, add sliced tomatoes, turmeric and red chilli powder.
Sauté until tomatoes turn slightly mushy.
Add fried ladyâs finger.
Note: If you are adding other vegetables, you will need to do so at this stage.
Add salt for vegetables and just enough water to cook them. Cover the pan and cook, until vegetables are nearly cooked (75%).
Add cooked dhal, coconut masala paste, and tamarind juice.
Add water, if necessary to adjust consistency. It shouldnât be too thick or too watery. Bring it to a boil.
Continue boiling for 15 minutes.
