This is what I always wanted, right?

I look at my final mate mark as I feel a buzz run through my body, telling me something just changed. I feel…very much the same though.

I tilt my head up, looking for the moon. I don't know why, but I've always associated it with the goddess. Maybe it's because I always had an affinity for night and the dreams it brings. I exhale all the air from my lungs, telling myself that when I breathe in fresh air, it will be as a full-blown connector, no longer a journeying one.

The air rushes in and it tastes slightly sweet on my tongue, like the delicate blossoms that are trying their best to outshine the moon.

There, I've done it. I've accomplished everything I set out to do, and then some. I didn't just take one mate per territory; I filled my bond with a few extras I really needed. I've even collected children. The only problem that I can see, is that aside from trying to get rid of this excess magic inside of me and holding my daughter for the first time, I have no idea what happens next. I should be excited, but instead I feel… weighed down.

“What's going on? I can feel you through the bond. You feel…sad?”

I lean against Donny as he scoots closer, but I'm unable to look away from the moon. It looks like I could just reach up and touch it; take it for myself and hide it. Donny runs his hands down my arms, then brings my hands up to reach for the sky. The waning gibbous fits into our palms this way, the warm light highlighting our connected hands.

Another pair of hands reaches from behind as well, and I turn my head to see Bennett cuddling into Donny with a smile cracked onto his face. He winks at me before letting those hands fall to Donny's hips, and it's just the thing I need to pull me out of this weird mood.

“Would you two like some privacy?”

They turn and stare at each other, and I hold my breath, because for some reason, it looks like they're going to kiss. Just before they make contact though, they start cracking up and push away from each other.

“Rude. I was ready for a show.”

They return to me, tucking me in between them. Bennett brushes the hair off my neck and kisses under my ear, his hands resting on my stomach. “You okay?”

“I think you've been holding onto this foreign magic too long. I think that's what I was feeling— it's like being around a new bond reminded it that it belongs to someone important. I know that sounds weird as fuck, but if it's strong enough to affect me through our bond, it's gotta be hitting you hard.”
