Chapter 9: Shakki Die
ASHLAND WOKE UP IN the hospital. She could tell from the citrus disinfectant and pinch in her vein from an IV drip. The dying pain she felt receded to a dull ache. Most of the swallow cuts had healed. All she had to worry about was the stab wound in her back from the glass of the car. She hadnât thought about the fact that she got to walk away from her fights. Now that she was no longer under fire, she constantly thought about it. Shakki blood, strict training for nineteen years of her twenty-five of life and sheâd never been hospitalised. One word from Sloth, and she was in the hospital. She survived being thrown into a vortex and ended up in the hospital from a word. He kicked her ass twice. Ashland felt her body up; she couldnât feel any significant damage to any vital organs. She stared at the ceiling, marvelling sheâd only been in Pinewood Valley for two days. Two freaking days. Her mind drifted to muscular arms and bluish lavender eyes. Ashland wondered if Lust was nearby again. Orinao would be surprised. Her lack of interest in sex was something he tried to pretend didnât bother him. Ashland knew better. Orinao was a Wolf Akuma. They were known for their passion and stamina. She never cared about passion unless it was on the battlefield. The closet she got to horny was weeks before her period, where she ovulated and could produce heirs. Orinao had a love/hate relationship with her monthlies. The sex before she PMSâd and became a complete bitch was fantastic.
Ashland knew from the way she saw herself withering in Slothâs arms that sex with him would be beyond that. She saw herself spread eagle on a bed, her hands and feet tied down, his head at her entrance, a smirk on his face. Her vision felt too real to be a daydream. Sloth was doing this, projecting racy thoughts to her. She was sure of it. God help her; she wanted him.
Groans pulled Ashland away from her thoughts toward Melody. She had forgotten that Melody ran to her side and tried to fight Sloth. Ashland was surprised at how well Melody moved. She was a natural. It didnât help, though Sloth was a fighter. Where Prime Minister Greyson was a weapons person, Slothâs body was his weapon. He honed his skills to deadly perfection.
Melody pushed herself up; she had a look on her face that made Ashland proud. Riazâs determination. Ashland gave her a small smile. She never thought sheâd have something in common with Melody. They were out of their depths here in the R.O.E. Ashland yanked the IV out of her hands and searched for her clothing, noticing the wrapped bandage on her midsection. She winced as she raised her arms to put her top on and bent to pull her jeans up.
âI donât need to tell you we shouldnât wait around to get examined, do I?â
âWhat?â
âShakki blood.
