Reports in the book The Admiralties: Operations of the First Cavalry Division praised the Lakota Code Talkers’ work in the Admiralty Campaign, declaring that “the Sioux men spoke their tribal languages fluently and sent messages in the clear with impunity.” Capt. Donald Walton, commanding officer of the 302nd Reconnaissance Troop, credited the men in the 302nd Reconnaissance Troop as being exemplary soldiers. Where a total of 1,189 Americans were wounded and 326 were killed in action during the campaign, Japanese casualties were much higher—an estimated 4,380 men lost.
