I’m feeling like a third wheel and I don’t fucking like it. I know Havoc’s been with her, and the way Shel was all up in Sledge’s lap, there’s obviously something going on there too. She’s never gonna get between the three of us, we’re too tight for that, but I need to know where the fuck I stand in this.

Something for me to figure out, I guess.

In the common room of the clubhouse, I slide onto one of the stools in front of the bar.

Jewel, Chef’s old lady, is manning it today. Her hair’s bright red with purple streaks. She puts a beer in front of me, then leans her elbow on the bar, pausing to chat. It’s pretty quiet right now. “Where’s the new girl?”

I take a drag from my beer. It goes down nice and cool. “Shelby. She’s over at Alessa’s. Her kid’s about the same age as their oldest boy. New look?”

She runs her fingers through her hair. “Like it? Having Kaylee around is awesome. Even the sluts don’t really mind losing Nitro, Tank and Wraith when it means having an on-site stylist.”

Sledge slides onto the stool next to me and raises a finger. “I’ll take whatever he’s having.”

Jewel nods and slides a bottle down the bar before leaving us to ourselves.

“Where’s Havoc?” he asks.

“Got called into a shift at the Roost.” The Eagles’ Roost is our bar outside of the compound. Good for making connections and some money for the club. Most of us take turns there, unless we’ve got some other work.

“Just us, then. Pool?”

“Yeah, sure. Might as well.” I grab a couple of sticks as Sledge racks up the balls.

Lace and Indie, a couple of the club sluts, wander over looking for company. “You guys have been busy lately. Need someone to help play with your balls?” Lace asks, biting her lip and grinning at Sledge. Her tits sway under her sleeveless top, one quick move from being in full view.

“I’m pretty good at handling wood.” Indie puts her hand on my arm and runs a finger down the cue.

“Not today.” I pull away, shaking off her touch. She’s a pretty girl, and she’s been around long enough to know exactly how to give a good time, but no part of me is interested in what she has to offer.

She shrugs and turns her attention to Sledge, putting her arm around Lace’s waist. “What about you? Just wanna watch, maybe?” Lace tilts her head to the side so Indie can kiss the side of her neck.

He doesn’t look any more tempted than I am, but I know the fucker well enough to see when he’s struggling to figure out what the fuck to say. A lot of people think Sledge is hot headed, that he lashes out without thinking, but that’s not it. He’s too strong and stubborn to do anything he doesn’t want to do, but sometimes he can’t figure out how to get his point across before he ends up punching someone, or in the case of women, pissing them off.
