Miley and Nola know each other? Matthew was ‘sick’. Murder was done with little to no plan. David wasn’t facing the killer when he was stabbed, body was moved, and flipped over. No fingerprints on the door handle, no gloves or cleaning supplies found, blood was not cleaned up, red ribbon tied on wrist, six alcohol pads were used due to the empty wrappers, only one was left on the scene. No DNA left on it.

Chapter Twenty-Three

May 23rd

What was supposed to be ten days off had turned into three weeks. It’d been three weeks since I’d seen or spoken with Abby. When I thought things were starting to turn around, I got a call saying Nola wanted to question me again. I knew he must be perplexed, because I am. Miley returned to town yesterday, which was good news for me because I believed she had finally had a genuine integration by someone who isn’t just covering for her. I could relate to Abby at that point, and I hated that I could say that.

Sleeping was a struggle for me, which it had never been before, but there was no reason to stay in bed when I knew it would only lead to frustration. My notes beckoned, and if I was going to be awake, I might as well work. My coffee pot hadn’t even started brewing yet because it was still too early and I had to start it manually. Once I got my cup, I proceeded to the guest room where my desk was strewn with notes, stacks of files, pictures, and anything else that might be relevant to the case. Sitting down, I grabbed the first note there was.

May 21st suspect list: Miley, and Nola together, Matthew, Mom.

I flinched at the thought that I had put my own mother on the list, and I never would have even thought it could had been her if it wasn’t for the conversation we had just two days earlier.
