A little while later they were sitting together on Felicity’s bed; a very enthralled Bree waved a half-drunk mojito at her. ‘Okay, so let me get this straight... Sebastian is Angel’s dad, he ran away because of evil grandfather, now he’s a billionaire back to reclaim the estate, only he’s not keeping the estate, he’s turning it into a flash resort and then...’

‘I’ve no idea.’

And she needed to get an idea, fast. For her and for Angel.

‘He wants to be a father to Angel though, yeah?’

‘I think so.’

Bree squinted, and she realised her response had been far too wishy-washy, but she felt as if the rug had been pulled out from under her and it still felt strange telling Bree when Angel didn’t know. But she’d needed to speak to someone to stop herself going crazy.

Someone who wasn’t Sebastian.

‘We’ve not had chance to talk about it properly, but yes, I believe he does.’

‘Well, that’s a good thing, right?’

She nodded, telling herself the same as she sipped her drink, wincing at the strength. ‘How much alcohol did you put in this, Bree?’

‘Hey, don’t curse the maker. I followed the instructions to the letter and this one has all the alcohol...with a smidgen of soda and juice. Beats tea, though, right?’

A laugh hiccupped out of her. ‘I guess.’

‘So why the long face? He’s back in your life and he wants to be in Angel’s and he’s about to whisk you off to his private estate...which sounds like a grand palace complete with an enormous swimming pool. Total holiday material.’

‘Because we’re going to have to tell Angel, like now, and I’d wanted to wait.’

‘You’d only be putting off the inevitable and she’s gonna want to know.’

‘I know, but I was hoping we’d get her exams out of the way first.’

Her friend gave her a sympathetic smile. ‘She’ll be fine, honey. She will. It’ll be a shock, of course it will, but she’s strong, determined and has her head screwed on right.’

‘I know.’

‘And she has you. You’ll get through it together.’

She wished she shared her friend’s optimism. ‘I hope so.’

‘No hope about it, you will!’

She tried for a smile.

‘And look on the bright side, he’s one hot stud muffin. Which is, of course, irrelevant. More of a bonus.’

‘Bree.’ She gave her friend a shove.

‘Sorry. Couldn’t resist. But on a serious note...’ she reached over to squeeze Felicity’s fingers ‘...it will be okay. From what you’ve said he’s a good man, so it stands to reason he’ll make a good father. And now he’s back you can get to know one another again... Who knows what might happen?’

The twinkle was back in her friend’s eye and Felicity cocked a brow. ‘Nothing’s going to happen. We’re going to tell Angel and take it from there.’

‘And it’s the taking it from there I’m talking about...’

She couldn’t stop the laugh from erupting; even if Bree was way off, it was hard to be frazzled for long in her friend’s upbeat presence.

‘And you must admit, you’ve not been serious about any man since him.
