With the pressure off, Pierce’s second throw went even farther. “What do you think, Coach? Was that 35 feet?”

Coach nodded and smiled. “Close to it.”

Unless Leggie could somehow pull out his best put ever, he’d be sitting on the bench again tomorrow.

He took a deep breath and concentrated on the form he’d been working on with Coach over the last few weeks. Even though he couldn’t run for another month, his hamstring barely hurt anymore. He could finally bend his legs on his puts, like Coach had shown him.

Leggie pressed the shot to his neck and started his spin. He focused on his lower body.

He came out of his spin and pushed the shot away from his body. It went up into the air and Leggie knew right away that it was a decent put. But, was it 35 feet decent?

As it landed, Coach jogged out to judge which shot had traveled further. He held up Leggie’s shot.

“Welcome back to competition, Leggie Peters,” Coach yelled over to them.

Pierce glared at Leggie. “Unbelievable,” he said, as he turned and walked off the field, shaking his head
