Chapter 11

The week started with a new perspective. Caroline found a lightness in her step and contentment in her heart that she had not felt for a long time. She and Gray spent every minute that they could together. They spent long hours walking on the beach, sitting on the porch reading or cooking together and enjoying the meals.

It was also during these quiet times that they spent time getting to know each other physically. Caroline was very surprised at how easily she responded to Gray’s touch. She could not deny the physical attraction she felt, and she wanted him. She knew he felt the same way, too. It was obvious when they were pressed together in an embrace, that he wanted her the same way.

As difficult as it was, she did not want to sleep with him just yet. She wanted to spend time with him to just grow together. As the days passed, though, it was getting harder and harder to stop the desires. Whenever they stopped to kiss, she could not stop herself from wrapping her arms around him. He would often take her face in his hands, and pretty soon, they would be wrapped in an embrace. Just the touch of his hands on her body, sent shivers of delight down her spine.

After such an embrace, he would often murmur in her ear, how much he loved her, and she would just want to stay in his arms. Suddenly, she felt young and alive, and completely in love.

At work, she would often watch him. His compassion and caring endeared him even more to her heart. She knew she was deeply in love with him. He was an amazing doctor, and a kind soul.

On Thursday night, Caroline waited for Gray to come home. She had poured a glass of wine for herself and had a glass chilling for him. He had told her during the day that he would be having dinner with the doctors. Dr. Baird had called a meeting. Summer had arrived, and they needed to discuss plans for the patient load.

As she watched for him, she kept going over the conversation she had just had with her mother. She had gotten a call just after arriving home. Her parents were coming this weekend and had let her know that her sisters and brothers would also be coming with their children. She had successfully hidden her irritation from her mother, but she had to admit she was quite annoyed. It was going to be hard enough on Gray to just meet the parents but adding all those people to the mix was just going to make it even harder on him.

Because of the change in plans, she had decided that she would let him out of the weekend. It was a disappointment, because she wanted them to meet, and she had hoped she could discuss the letter with her parents and him together. She was having trouble trying to figure it out on her own.

She wandered out onto her porch.
