Evan didnât really care what they did at the markets. Sure, he wanted to pick up a few souvenirs, but one glance around told him heâd have no trouble finding something in a heartbeat. What he did want to do, was make the most of spending time with Harry.
âLetâs wander over that way.â He pointed away from the fresh foods they were surrounded by to a section that seemed more in line with what they wanted to look at.
The two of them wandered around, bypassing some stalls and taking their time at others. There were all manner of local products and handicrafts.
âArenât these fun?â Harry said, looking at a display of beautiful fabrics.
They stopped in front of the stall that had a vast number of sarongs on display. âThey sure are colourful,â Evan agreed. âYou know, theyâre called pÄreu in this part of the Pacific.â
âReally? Cool. I think my sister would love one.â
âDo you have more siblings?â Evan asked.
âYep,â Harry said, taking down one of the pÄreu from where it was hung on the wall and taking a closer look. âI have another sister too. Iâll look for a bracelet or something like that for her, as thatâs more her scene.â
âAre they older or younger?â
âBoth younger. Theyâre actually my half-sisters. My mum and dad got divorced, and a couple of years later Dad remarried and had Felicity and Alex with his new wife.â Harry replaced the fabric and picked up another, this time a pÄreu with a bright floral design. âWhat do you think of this one?â he asked, holding it out.
âWell, I donât know your sister, but if she likes to stand out, then that oneâs a winner.â
Harry chuckled. âYeah, Felicity is the show-off in the family and likes to stir things up. Alex is more reserved. She likes to sit back and take things in, not rock the boat.â
That sounded an awful lot like Harry in Evanâs opinion. âYou sound close.â
âSort of,â Harry said with a shrug. âItâs hard with the age gapâtheyâre fifteen and sixteenâand I lived with Mum growing up, but we always spent holidays and regular weekends together. Sometimes I felt more like their babysitter than their brother, but we still managed to have a lot of fun. Now theyâre older, theyâre keener to hang out.â
âAnd be spoiled by their big brother?â
âWhat makes you say that?â
âYouâre taking the time to choose them each the perfect gift, not just grabbing the nearest thing.â
Harry smiled as he passed the fabric to the lady manning the stall. âTheyâre good kids. Iâm sure youâd do the same. Tell me about your sister.â
âOh, youâd love Monique. Sheâs a lot like Amberââ
âSo double trouble then?â
âYou bet.â Evan grinned. âIt was like having two sisters growing up. Monique and I are only a year apart, so weâve always been close. She would have kicked my butt if I hadnât done the brotherly thing and accompanied Amber on this cruise.â
Harry paid the vendor and accepted the bag with the pÄreu, shoving it in his backpack as they walked away.
