from three rows over.

He knows that when

his friend stops talking,

there is something wrong.

I want to keep gathering

branches, get the work done.

But a silence

has fallen over us all.

and sink into

Pancho looks like a deer

in his black wool

hat and a thick tan jacket.

He looks to us

and then out far

over the orchard

with focused eyes.

I try to find

where they are looking.
