Chapter Twenty-Seven

Rina

Agangster, of course. The most handsome man I’ve ever seen, and he kills people for a living.

Hindsight is twenty-twenty. There’s a reason that phrase is a cliché. Because it’s so true. Now that I know, I can see all the signs and the sea of red flags I either missed or ignored.

Edmond is quiet, allowing me to absorb what he’s told me. It’s a bombshell, but it explains so much that I’m kind of thankful he’s not a raving serial killer and only murders people for business.

Yeah. As if that is any better.

Edmond hand doesn’t move off my thigh. Though his fingers retreat from stroking my pussy, letting me think since it’s hard to do when he’s touching me.

“And Mila’s mother was in the mafia too?”

“Yes. She was the Boss, and after she died, I became the head of our organization.”

Wow, talk about breaking the glass ceiling.

Occasionally, as if to remind me about the traitorous reaction my body has for him, Edmond strokes the back of his hand against my core.

In a way, it reminds me of an evil henchman petting a kitty. His touch is featherlight, almost absent-minded. While yes, that is my pussy under his hand, it is not a cat. And every new amount of pressure on my clit sends need pulsing inside of me. It isn’t long until a steady drip of wetness makes my panties stick to my lips.

Somehow, I manage not to moan each time he caresses me. I can’t disguise the increase in my breathing, though. Or the thick, soft gasps that puff into the air.

Through it all, Edmond seems unaffected. His free hand is loose on the steering wheel. Looking casually as if he were behind a Ferrari instead of my beater.

Finally, finally, he pulls down my street, before coming to a smooth stop in front of the old Victorian. Not even a half-minute later, Leon and Marcus park behind us.

Edmond turns the ignition off, pulls the keys free, and holds them out to me.

How chivalrous.

I hesitate. Because now that we're in a residential area, the lighting is much better. And I can see the smudges of blood he's left on the metal.

I swallow and hastily accept them. I can bleach them later.

"Your sister is safe and sound asleep.”

In the wake of all that I’ve seen tonight, my first alarm triggers. I'm not a violent person. My nature is to live and let live, but all of that inflames in a burst of temper as I swivel on Edmond. Just hearing Luce’s name on his mouth makes me want to take a swing at him.

"You might have some sick fascination with me," I hiss. Because that's becoming very obvious. "But you leave Lucia alone!"

Just as suddenly as my anger rose, it faded out as realization punches me.

I'm the witness to a crime.

Don't criminals put cement shoes on people who can squeal on them? I know that's the Italian mafia - thanks to The Godfather.

What do Russians do?

I suck in a breath, staring up at Edmond as if he were a python ready to gobble my whole life whole.
