Rosco’s doggy smile had started to fade to a tired and thirsty pant. This sure is a long walk we’re going on.

They turned another corner but it was a dead end. No mailbox.

“Let's just keep at it. We're almost done.” said Mandy. They kept walking.

Just then Rosco noticed a familiar scent. Then he heard a noise—movement within the cornfield. He looked about. There it was, another rabbit, just like the one that had darted inside the cornfield while he rode the hay wagon.

Rosco had by now become a little bored with the maze since the rows of corn all looked the same. He had been obedient for so long now that he didn’t have much willpower left to ignore the rabbit. Like any distracted puppy, he pounced.

He missed. The rabbit moved quickly away, and that old chasing instinct just took over! Rosco forgot his strict orders and his sworn promise. He ran and didn't look back.

Mandy called out but Rosco ignored her. This will only take a minute. Then I’ll be right back. They’ll catch up to me in no time, he thought. I’ve got to catch that rabbit! Off he dashed.

Mandy sighed a long, drawn-out sigh.

“Oh Rosco, not again…”
