The following morning, Daisy comments that Rhys has once again followed us to another presentation.

“He’s like a puppy,” she whispers, leaning over to me in the middle of the talk.

“But we like puppies,” I pout.

After the panel is over, Rhys finds me and brazenly towers over me, backing me against the wall, kissing my neck.

“Good morning.”

My body thrills at the memory of what we did yesterday in the empty side room, and at the memory of him holding me all night.

“I knew you’d be at this one, and I wanted to see you,” he says, then dips his head down to kiss me on the nose.

“Aw.”

“Did I just make you melt?”

“No.”

“Ha! Keep trying to resist it. You love me.”

Daisy walks on, but not before patting Rhys on the shoulder. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

I watch her go, slinging her fake broadsword over her shoulder, chainmail tinkling as she walks.

“My friend is just a little protective,” I say.

“That’s not a bad thing,” Rhys says.

I smile at this. “True. Sometimes I need supervision.”

“And on that note. Did you get any sleep after I left?”

I lie. “Yeah, couple of hours.”

“And did you eat breakfast?”

“Yes, Daddy.” Another lie. I slammed a protein bar, which is good enough. But I have a feeling if I tell him the truth, he’s going to fuss over me, and I do not want that. Daisy is bad enough. Rhys is not my doctor nor my nurse. He’s my convention boyfriend, and that’s all we are to each other.

At least this is what I have to keep telling myself. What else could this be?

Something is wrong with me, and no simple orc you meet at a con wants to be burdened with a sick girlfriend. Not even a nice, caring, protective one like Rhys. This is a fling, and we both know it.

“Good girl,” he says, leaning in and pecking me on the cheek, his orc tusks brushing my nose, making me laugh.

“I liked holding you last night. Come to my room tonight, after the closing ceremony,” he says. “Forrest and Dean are leaving early. We’ll have the room to ourselves.”

The suggestion makes my toes tingle with excitement.

“That sounds amazing.”

“Yeah?” He smiles cockily and runs his hand up my thigh, under my cloak. I bite back a groan as his fingers stroke the inside of my thigh. I look around self-consciously, but everyone has left. It’s just the two of us.

“I’m supposed to be at a game at 11. They’re debuting the new version of Time Machine Treasure, and I really want to try it.”

The whole time I’m talking, Rhys’s hands are slowly roaming everywhere.

“We have fifteen minutes,” he says.

I snort softly. “Fifteen minutes, huh? That’s all you got?”

He leans in and dips his head down, kissing me at that spot at the side of my neck that makes me crazy while holding the side of my face with that big hand of his. “I can go as long or as fast as you want, baby girl. You want to skip this thing and make love all afternoon? I got you.
