Mac helps me down from the high wall, which is gentlemanly, but unnecessary. I have wings, after all. Still, he’s looking more relaxed than when we were all in the kitchen earlier and I consider our time out here well spent. As I walk toward the sliding glass doors, I spot Flash waiting inside and offer him a smile. “I take it you came looking for me?”

“Your prolonged absence made me uncomfortable, and I wished to see that you were well and happy.”

I lean forward and place a kiss on his cheek. “I missed you too.”

That seems to go a long way in making him feel better. “It seems your private conversation went well.”

I study his face, as I often do, to read if there is any subtext behind his comment. There isn’t. Flash isn’t jealous or worried or even prying. He’s simply making an observation. “Yes. I wanted to check in with him and apologize in case I overstepped earlier when discussing our expectations of this relationship.”

He frowns. “You did not overstep. Trying to help us all find our place with one another is welcome and necessary. I hope Mac told you as much.”

I press my palm to his cheek. “He did.”

The moment my hand touches his skin, he stiffens and turns the table on me. His hand shoots forward to cup the side of my neck and then he locks gazes with me. “Are you well, my lovely? Your skin doesn’t hold it’s usual warmth, but your pupils are equal and reactive and your pulse is strong and steady.”

I chuckle, gripping his wrist to move his hand from my neck to my lips. After placing a gentle kiss against the center of his palm, I step against his chest and wrap my arms around his ribs.

Skin-to-skin contact enhances Flash’s ability to read my thoughts and emotions. With that in mind, I answer his question with as much anticipation and mental imaging as I can manage. “I’m fine. Although, you’re right. It was chilly outside. How would you like to spend some private time with me and warm me up? I never got my hungers sated.”

His eyes flash with a sudden spark. “I would enjoy that very much. Should we invite Shift? He was the one you wanted to join with earlier.”

“And you’re sure that doesn’t bother you?”

He shakes his head, his expression open and honest. “Not at all.”

Well, I won’t say no to that.

“Then we should definitely go find him and invite him to join us. I found a room on this floor that has a lovely fireplace and some oversized couches. I think warming up in front of the fire would be a wonderful way to spend the next few hours.”

Flash takes my hand and then gestures for me to lead the way. “Take me to your fireplace room and I will invite Shift over our neuro-link. That way I can warm your skin right away.”

“I like the sound of that.”
