Chapter Thirteen

Mara

Ihad looked around the kitchen for Jean, but she had already left. I wasn’t sure if I should feel bad or not that I wasn’t paying her as much attention as I was to everyone else. We’d spent a little time together, but we really needed another one of our girl’s nights. As soon as we dealt with all of this prophecy nonsense, I was going to suggest that maybe we go away for a weekend, just the two of us. It was probably going to take some convincing. The boys likely all had their own plans for the ways they wanted to celebrate, finally completing the prophecy hanging over our heads. And I wanted to celebrate with them too, but not at the expense of hanging out with Jean.

Maybe we really did need a schedule.

I was just getting out of my chair when Tiernan poked his head back in from the living room. “You know, luv, this will not be nearly as much fun if you don’t join us. Although Dominic and Dorian may have gotten started without you.”

His comment actually made me smile. I was glad that Dorian and Dom didn’t feel like they had to wait for me to be around. They had been a couple before me, after all. It was, in part, why I had gone out to talk to Forrest when he had been outside. Yes, I wanted to talk to him, to make sure that he was okay, but also I wanted to give Dom and Dorian some time to reconnect. It surprised me that Dominic hadn’t been angrier about Dorian dying. Or maybe he had been, and he just didn’t want to show it. He deserved just as much time alone with Dorian as he wanted. Regardless of how he felt.

I kissed Tiernan’s cheek as I stepped into the doorway, giving his hand a squeeze at the same time. He stopped me from walking past him, his hands falling to my hips, a light squeeze making me pause. Looking up, I found him looking down at me with that same serious expression he had on his face out by the tree. “Promise me you’ll always come back, luv. No matter where you go, come back to us.”

I could feel the tears welling in my eyes. These little moments they were so precious to me. Especially with Tiernan. Most of my boys had some sort of issue with talking about how they felt. Tiernan had absolutely no problem telling me all the things that he wanted to do to me. And I didn’t want him to stop or to change that. But these brief comments reassured me that it wasn’t just sex.

Although the sex was worth it.

Leaning up on my toes, I pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “Only if you promise me the same.” I was doing my best not to worry about what was going to happen tomorrow. We were supposed to be focusing on the moment, on each other, but those thoughts kept sneaking in, no matter what I did.
